Maricopa Forensic Science Center Phoenix, Arizona Maricopa County's Medical Examiner's Office serves the country's sixth largest population base and has one of the highest caseloads. In 1999, the office completed 3,957 cases and performed 2,496 autopsies. The new center replaces the obsolete Medical Examiner's building and contains modern laboratories, autopsy and decomposition/special procedures suites. For improved worker safety and comfort, ionair® systems were installed to reduce odors and airborne contaminants in the lower level walk-in coolers (total capacity of 144 cadavers), freezer, tissue sample elevator, and decomposition/special procedure suites.
